• I think the handoff is really the key part here, AI can handle the easy stuff, but if a customer is already frustrated, making them go through several more chatbot replies before reaching a person can make things worse, a quick and smooth transfer would make the whole experience much better.

Exactly!! I think that’s the real difference between a useful AI agent and just another chatbot, if it can actually take care of the issue instead of making the customer figure everything out themselves, it saves time for both sides, and having a smooth handoff to a human when needed is just as important.

  • The credit usage is probably the part I’d keep an eye on too, fast setup and model flexibility are great, but once the bot is handling real traffic, unpredictable credit usage could become a problem, i’d be curious to see actual numbers from teams using it in production.

  • Yeah, I agree, there are a lot of good points here, but it covers so many things at once that the main point gets a little lost, i think focusing more on the shift from chat to voice and what that means for customer support would make it easier to follow.

I’d say it can be both, a question can be complex because the information isn’t in the knowledge base, but it can also be complex because it needs judgment, multiple steps, or understanding the customer’s situation, that’s where I think the ability to recognize its limits and bring in a human becomes really important.

I think Chatbase can definitely be considered alongside platforms like Zendesk, especially as AI support becomes more common, the main difference is that each platform has its own strengths, so it probably depends on whether a business needs more traditional ticketing and support tools or more AI-focused automation.

Automating the sync definitely makes more sense once the content starts changing regularly, manual retraining might work for smaller setups, but with a lot of updates it could get pretty time consuming, keeping the knowledge source connected to the chatbot seems like a much easier way to keep everything up to date.

  • I like the point about looking beyond just the technology itself, AI support sounds great, but it really comes down to whether it actually makes things easier for customers and support teams, if it creates more confusion or extra steps, then it’s not really solving the problem.

Yeah, this can be really frustrating, i’ve had situations where an AI gives an answer that sounds completely confident, so you only realize later that something is off, i’d much rather it admit when it’s unsure and give me the option to talk to a human than confidently send me in the wrong direction.

August 27, 2026 at 9:24 am in reply to: AI Customer Service: Real Savings or Just New Costs?

I think it really depends on how the company uses AI, it can definitely reduce costs by handling repetitive questions, but there are still expenses for setup, maintenance and keeping the system accurate, so it feels more like shifting costs and freeing up human agents for harder issues rather than completely eliminating costs.

Yeah, this is one of the biggest advantages of AI in customer support, being able to get help instantly instead of waiting on hold can make a huge difference, the personalization part is useful too, as long as the recommendations actually match what the customer needs.

  • I think AI is definitely changing how businesses handle customer experience, the biggest difference will be when AI can do more than just answer questions and actually understand what the customer needs, at the same time, having a human available when things get complicated is still really important.

I agree with this, i think people are getting more comfortable with AI when it saves them time, especially for simple things like tracking an order or fixing a basic issue, but when something is more complicated, being able to reach a real person without going through a bunch of chatbot steps makes a huge difference.

  • This is actually a really interesting point, i think AI can make customer support much faster, but the experience still depends on how well it understands the customer’s situation if it can handle the simple stuff and then smoothly bring in a human when needed, that’s where it becomes genuinely useful.

  • Yeah, I’ve seen this too, AI assistants can definitely make simple things like checking orders or finding information much quicker, but I think the real test is how well they handle situations when something goes wrong and whether they know when to bring in a human.
