That “Amazing New Feature” Might Not Actually Be Useful

These weeks a new feature is seemingly launched by every SaaS product. The announcements are made to look impressive and highly immersive, they roll out a polished demo, a list of attractive benefits and few screenshot that tempts users to want to try it immediately.

Then you actually use the feature.

Sometime’s it’s genuinely useful, other times you spend nothing less than 20 minutes to half an hour trying to navigate it and figure out how it works, then you eventually wonder why didn’t you manually do the task.

I’ve tasked myself with paying less attention to the hype (feature announcements) and I now pay more attention to what happens after the noise dies down.

I usually ask myself: did it save my time?, was a real problem solved?, did the new feature make the product easier to use?.

What SaaS Features were you hyped about but it ended up disappointing you?

A feature can look impressive in a launch demo and still add very little value once you actually use it. I think the real test is whether it reduces friction and saves meaningful time, not how impressive the announcement looks.

I’ve definitely experienced this. A feature can look impressive in a demo but feel unnecessary once you actually use it. For me, the real test is simple: does it save time, solve a genuine problem, or make the workflow easier? If I spend more time learning the feature than doing the task manually, the “innovation” quickly loses its appeal. The best SaaS features aren’t always the flashiest, they’re the ones that quietly make your everyday work easier.
