Fast to Launch, But the Credit System Will Test You

Chatbase makes building an AI support agent remarkably fast. Upload your docs, tweak a few settings, and you can have a working FAQ bot live in under 15 minutes .

The platform supports 17+ AI models, so you’re not locked into one provider . But the credit-based billing is where things get tricky .

Model choice can change reply costs dramatically, credits expire monthly, and your agent goes completely silent once you run out .

This means a bot doing its job well can quietly eat your budget or go dark at the worst possible time.

It’s a solid choice for straightforward Q&A, but budget carefully if you’re scaling to production.

That’s a fair point. Chatbase makes deployment impressively simple, but the credit system is definitely something teams need to understand before scaling. The flexibility of choosing different models is useful, but costs can become unpredictable when usage increases.

I can confirm the “goes silent” part isn’t hypothetical. We ran ours as a sales-assist bot during launch week and the credits ran out mid-campaign. No warning email until after it was already down.

That’s a painful way to discover the limitation. A hard stop during a launch can cost more than the credits themselves, especially when the bot is handling sales conversations. Usage alerts and configurable limits should really be standard for anything being used in production.
