Users want the feeling of autonomy more than raw autonomy. They want an agent that acts confidently on reversible, low stakes work, and pauses on anything costly or ambiguous. The veto must be cheap and obvious. So the winning design is not maximum independence. It is calibrated independence, where asking is fast, rare, and never feels like failure.
