The point about guardrails and procedures is also crucial. Giving an AI agent unrestricted access to business systems would be risky and no responsible company would do that. But with clear procedures, verified permissions, and defined escalation paths, the AI can handle a surprising amount of work safely. The key is designing the workflows carefully and knowing exactly where the boundaries are. That takes effort upfront but it pays off in reduced workload for human agents.

I also agree that resolution rate is a much better metric than ticket deflection. A chatbot can deflect 80 percent of questions but if customers still need a human to actually complete the task, the team has not saved that much time. The real measure of success is how many customer problems the AI can resolve completely from start to finish without human involvement. That is the number that actually matters for ROI. Thanks for starting this discussion. It is one of the most important questions in AI support right now.
